Please don't Drop out!!! When I was 16 I had a lot of problems with family amongst other things... I didn't think I could handle it...so I dropped out band got my GED(I was a straight A student)...It was my biggest mistake and everyday I live to regret it. I literally cried @ my best friends graduation knowing that I should have been walking with her. I cried when I went to pick out a prom dress with her. There are certain things in life that you just shouldn't miss out on... A GED is not the same..you don't get the same satisfaction you get when having a HS Diploma. It felt like after I made that drastic move everything else went down hill. I'm 24 now.. and wasted years of my life.. last year I actually went to college and am working towards my law degree...but one question that always haunts me is.. will people ever think I'm good enough if I couldn't even finsih h.s? I'm sure you are strong enough to to go all the way...don't let yourself down and live to regret it like I did. Once you do it...You can never go back and all you'll ever want to do is go back. No matter how hard life gets.. face it, show the world how strong you can be. Don't let people get the best of you.. you've got to let them see you're resilient... Don't be another stastic..
To answer your question she can't force you... but you should force yourself.
I can never change the things I did, but I hope somehow I'll change your decision...
E-mail me If you ever need to talk or need support.. everyone does sometimes..

It depends on the state rules. Check out if you can get your GED before you drop out.
I dropped out in my senior year. Some may say that that was stupid but I had just moved and I didn't have any friends and didn't get along with some of the teachers that I had and tried to transfer to a different class, but the principle said to suck it up and get back to class.
I got my GED and joined the Navy. I now have a PHD and retired at the age of 41. If you have something that you can do after you get your GED then go for it. If you can go to college instead of High School that would be even better, but don't quit school without having a plan (A PLAN THAT YOU CAN ACHIEVE).
Good Luck, if nothing else, join the military.

I dont' know about the laws in CT, but in NC you can leave school at the age of 16. It is possible, though, that you're state has other regulations concerning high school dropouts. Ultimately, I would just switch schools. The bottom line is that you receive more respect and can get into college easier with a high school degree instead of a GED. Furthermore, who cares what people at school think? This is the problem with kids (I had the same issue when I was a teen)... they always feel like they have to please everyone. When you're a little older, you won't give a crap what people think. Live by the saying "I can only make one person happy a day, and today is not your day... tomorrow doesn't look good, either." If they really try to start trouble, make your principal earn his/her salary - tell them so that THEY can deal with the troublemakers instead.

I went through this with my daughter in high school so I sent her to a alternative school where she could go anytime of the day and work at her own pace. It was all done on the computer except for a couple of books that she had to read. She got her regular high school diploma in the same time as if she stayed in regular school. I made a deal with the principal of the high school to still let her walk withher class for graduation.
If you don't have one of these schools around then yes get your GED and move on. It is hard for a parent to let their children drop out but from the sound of it,if you don't get your GED you will end up quiting school or getting into fights.
Have a plan in place when you talk to your Mom. let her know that you will get your GED and then either go to college or start working. As long as you have a plan she will be more likely to listen to you.
I will pray for you, good luck.

I'm Australian and work as a teacher.
Firstly... dropping out does not mean you are 'stupid' or anything like that. I criticize the school system every day because it just isn't suited for everyone. I do however think that education is important and if people are going to drop out then they need a plan (like you seem to have with reference to the GED).
In Australia parents can't force people to go to school after the age of 16. Not sure what the case is in America sorry.

As for your question i do think she can make you. There is a thing in washington...called an ARY. At Risk Youth pettion. She can put in it that you have to go to school...so many days a week unless sick otherwise they stick you in DYC Denny Youth Center. I dont know if every state has that but i know it is out there. Speaking from personal experience...i would say you should get your high school diploma. Only because it looks so much better on job apps. later. I realize that its hard to deal with the crap that goes on at school but be strong. Hold your head high and dont let what others say get to you. And the first time it becomes physical then go to the princable if they dont do anything tell the school board.

I believe that in CT she can still force you to go to school. You must be 18 to sign yourself out. What if you go to a different school - a private or public school instead. A GED isn't as good as an actually high school diploma so you'll have a harder time getting into college or finding a good job. Just a suggestion. Good luck in whatever you do.

You probably can quit, but getting your EDUC. while your there makes more sense than trying to get a GED. later.Which means,no GED. until you can find the time to get one.Which also means that you won't have a high school diploma, and won't be able to get a decent job.If you think about it,these people you are talking about probably are not doing well in school,so if they can get you to fail too, there happy. That brings us to the friends you do have. Are they supportive?Or are they the kind of friends that keep S**t going?Telling you that someone said this about you, what are you going to do about it?He said she said.So in so don't like you,she said.Or you saying,i don't like her because she?All these reason are something to consider. If that is the case then you need to change the way you talk, act, the way you think about yourself, and most of all the so called friends you hang out with.

I think you can leave school legally if you are 16, but your Mom might require you to go as a condition of living at home. You need to get really organized with a GED program lined up and show her exactly how you would do it, where you would actually sit in your house to study, how you would organize your time, etc. so that she can really believe you will do the work and be okay working by yourself. That's your best bet, I think, because it really is up to her. Good luck!

i am sure there are other schools some where close. try transferring girl! or even home school! but dont quit. its way harder to get a job with a ged than with a real high school diploma. and a ged only takes u so far. u made it through your freshmen year! and that takes alot. and ur a junior. one more year and u r out of high school for good!!! then u could possibly go to college (if u r interested). and in college u could have ur own personal dorm and freedom. just get through high school. but as far as u droppin out and your mom stoppin u..it depends on your states laws.
