As someone previously posted, a kitten shouldn't be separated from it's mother for 10-12 weeks. A cold in a very young cat IS serious. Go back to your vet ASAP.

That kitty is way too young to have left his mum. He should still be on his mother's milk at a month old. Whoever gave him to you doesn't deserve to have cats.

Anyway. I'm going through the cat flu thing with my lot at the moment, so I do know what I'm talking about.

If he's got any kind of discharge from his eyes, nose or mouth, he needs to go to the vet. Is he breathing with his mouth open?

Take him to the vet - they'll give you some Synulox tablets for him. If he still isn't eating, ask them for some Hill's A/D food and a syringe. If he won't eat it from his bowl, you can then syringe feed him. The reason they don't eat is because they can't smell their food - if you put the food in the microwave for 10 seconds or so, it'll release the flavours and smells. If you do need to syringe feed him, the easiest way is to wrap him completely in a blanket.

Have you got other cats, or has he been in contact with other cats? Did his mum have cat flu at any time, cos she might be a carrier and have passed it on to all the kittys.

If you've got other cats, keep the poorly one isolated in a humid room but KEEP A WINDOW OPEN - it's an airborne virus, so by keeping the window open the virus will be released. I know it's cold, but stick some jumpers on.

The virus can't be spread to other species - human, canine or any. But it is highly contagious between cats.

Please, just to be safe, take him back to the vet. I'd recommend a different vet - your one seems a bit irresponsible, saying he's going to get a cold but not giving him anything for it.

I really hope he's ok, and that you both have a healthy, happy Christmas.

Sounds as if he might just have a cold but if in doubt go back to the vet. Don't forget kittens are like babies and do sleep a lot. Have you insured the kitten as that saves any massive vet bills because better safe than sorry. Hope he gets better soon.

I agree with Kia, this kitten is WAY too young to be taken from its mother. What are his other symptoms? Does he have the sneezes and a runny nose? If his little nose is stuffy, he can't smell his food well and he won't have much of an appetite: a vet can give him an injection to unstuff him.
Your kitten is not only very young, he's still adjusting to his new home. They often don't eat much until they get more accustomed to their surroundings. Be sure and give him some canned food because he may have some difficulty eating kibble at his young age.
Has he been tested for feline leukemia? Make this a priority if you haven't had him tested yet.

i got a kitten on friday, we were told that he was 6 weeks and small for his age, and that he had been weaned and wormed. when we got him home he wouldnt eat and just wanted to sleep and kept sneezing. i was concerned about cat flu so i took him to the vets on sat, vet said he is only 4 weeks and may have cat flu. he gave him antibiotics and some special food and a syringe to feed him with and now his a little terror, so i would suggest taking him back to the vet. cat flu can kill, especially in a young kitten that is away from mum too soon, he's immune system isnt strong enough to fight it on his own, also if you have any other cats they are at risk too and if they're vacinations aren't up to date you should get that done too.

More than likely the pill for the worms is working on the worms and he is feeling better. As for the cold, sounds like he was malnourished and just needs plenty of food and water.

Well my cat one time was sick because he slept the whole entire day. We took him to the vet and he was actually sick. I think that it is just the cold wearing off.

how did your vet know your kitten was going to get a "cold"???
If your kitten was sick your vet should have started your kitten on an antibiotic. I would call your vet tomorrow and get some medication

I thought you said you took him to the vet. If you are still concerned, call them back in the morning and follow up with them. We can't help you much more than that. He is way too young to leave mom. Maybe that is part of his problem. GL
