Why would the police decide all of a sudden to lower the speed limit by 10mph and then ticket anyone who goes 1/2mph over the limit saying it will prevent the number of accidents, meanwhile doing absolutely nothing about those who run red light and in fact causes more accidents than the alleged speeding does? Countless people have complained and the police, when interviewed by the local paper, were very arrogant about it.

Because what they're doing with the speeding fines is just revenue raising. They don't really care about preventing the number of accidents. I agree with you that that is completely stupid. I don't understand why they haven't fined the people running red lights. They must be on a power tripp. Alot of them are.

The police have no authority to lower speed limits. In a municipality, that responsibility lies with the city council.

A police officer cannot ticket someone for 1/2mph over the speed limit. The equipment used to measure speed does not display fractions.

Can you provide us with a cite for this newspaper story?

Why worry about it? If it really bothers you, move to Florida. They have speed limits, but nobody cares. You can be doing seventy in a thiry zone, and sure enough, some ahole is get behind you and tailgate you. This place is a real joke. Tons of money spent on police, but you can drive around all day, and never see any out on the highways doing speed enforcement. And when they are out, they usually send out a press release telling everybody where they will be. Red light enforcement, thats a joke also.

If you want it addressed - you should take it to the city council instead of the newpapers.
Red light violations typically do cause more accidents.
They are probably just trying to get everyone's attention on the fact that the speed limit was reduced.
The police don't make the laws, they just enforce them.

How do you know they aren't giving tickets for red lights??? Are you right there all the time with them??? In order to give a ticket for a red light, you have to SEE it happen...much the same way you would have to clock speed to ticket a speeder. But just because you see someone run a light doesn't mean that the officer did even though you might've seen a cruiser in the vicinity.
