Two months ago I began to take Levothyroxin for subclinical Hypothyroidism. My levels are fine now according to the doctor, however, since I began to take them I have noticed that certain foods will bring a burning pain to my stomach. Milk for one, so since then I started drinking Lactose free milk. But it has since then began to expand. Coffee has done it and just the last night hard cider, but the pain since then has been continuing, all day today when I have eaten the pain has returned. Its rather annoying, but Acetaminophen eases it enough so I can relax a little.

I have of course spoken to my doctor about this. He did not give me a single straight answer, rather he gave me a recipe for a soy and psyllium shake that I have followed every morning for this past week and a half. He refused to tell me any method of soothing the pain when it occurs as well. I found the acetaminophen by desperation. Tomorrow I am calling the Nurses advice line in hopes they can provide me some more information.

My questions are as follows, Is this caused by the medicine directly or is it a side effect of my altered thyroid function. Also, what is the best way to soothe the pain when it occurs. With Levothyroxin I am unable to take any antacids or such medications. I am stuck in a very uncomfortable place right now. Please lend to me any advice you believe will be helpful. Thank You.

I'd find another doctor- if this one can't be up front with you regarding answers to your health, seek another opinion. Doctors aren't gods, and they make mistakes. As for your symptoms, it could be anything- maybe even a worsening of your old condition, or a new one.

If u have taken any antibiotics latly u may have killed the good bacteria in you stomach. Go get some yogurt and eat a little everyday this may help. Also papaya enzymes u can get them from the health food store. Ask the clerk there they may have some other home remedies for u. Still go to the doc tho even if it goes away. U might have an ulcer or something else. Also a tums or rolaids may help. I get chewy ones they taste better. Dont eat anything acidic like tomatos or orange juice. U can get flare ups from that. Hope u feel better

U need to take an acid reducer with the medicine.
Like Pepcid AC, forget the docs advice, he just wants u on prescriptions and wants the money for more visits.
Anyway, for thyroid problems u should just take a natural kelp tablet before even takin prescription pills.
See if it helps better.
U need second opinions when it comes to doctors
An older doctor could be a wiser doctor
