Alot of the difference in taste comes from the water. Foutain drinks usually come from unfiltered tap water, w/ CO2 and surup. Compared from the factory where everything is chemicaly balanced and perfected before being canned.

At the fountain, the drink is mixed as it is dispensed. Before that it's in three basic parts, the flavored syrup, the water, and the CO2.
These elements are blended together as the soda is put into cans and bottles as well, but then they sit together for a long time under pressure. The syrup formula is often different as well. I will drink Diet Coke from the fountain, but can't stand it from bottles and cans.

At restaurants they use fountain soda which adds water to concentrated soda that comes from a large keg like aluminum can, which has a kind of euphoric taste, unless the tap water is bad. Bottled soda is probably the worst tasting, but most convenient. Canned soda has more carbonation which makes it taste more crisp and refreshing. The aluminum cans hold in the carbonation better than plastic bottles.

The only difference is fountain soda is high in sodium buy yet tastes so good. Better than can drinks I think.

When you get a can of soda the syrup and water is mixed ahead of time but fountain drinks mix these things whenever it dispenses your drink.

Fountain soder is made with syrup and seltzer, thats why when syrup is low it tastes more watered down. Canned soda is made at the factory and thus can be better.

when you get pop from the fountain, the carbonated water and flavoring are mixed right before it goes in your cup and when you get pop in a can, the carbonated water and flavoring were mixed a while ago.
