It is only wrong if you accept the rules of polite society and agree to live by them. There is no law saying that you have to follow these rules or live like anyone else, so if you feel like farting, burping and picking your nose - go for it. Just realize people will treat you accordingly.

When I'm a grandad I won't care whether or not anyone thinks I'm rude if I do those kind of things. Who tells you it's "wrong" to pick your nose or to fart at forty? I'll give you that one on dropping food down your shirt though.

The forty-year-old could do these things too if he or she didn't mind being treated in every way like someone in their 60's to 80's. It's not pretty to watch Grandad, but it's not much fun being that age either.

Oh my God, if you are forty, how old is your Grandad?
Give the guy some space.
And stop picking your nose and farting.
Throw cheese at pigeons instead
It's much more fun, and doesn't smell as bad.

Because picking your nose in front of other people could possibly make them chunder (vomit) dropping food could encourage mice or rats and BLOWING OFF smells. It's not always a good way of making friends and influencing people. Your Grandad has you lol and you love him (hopefully) already. At 40 there's time for people to go off you.

I think when people get so old, they are so set in their ways, it is almost futile to get them to change. Plus, by this point, anyone who is around them is probably so used to it, they are not bothered by it. As for those it does bother, they can choose to say something and be in the minority. But, most choose to remain silent because everyone else does too. It's herd mentality.
