What is the difference between strep and a cold? Obviously I have had both in the past. I am not sure which i have. I know a lot of people around me in the past few weeks have had colds. My throat hurts but is getting better. One of my glands is still swollen. I have a runny nose and might have a low fever. Anyone?

A cold will generally go away on it's own. I don't think strep will go away without medication. A fever can accompany both. A simple test at the doctor's will tell you.

I always thought that pus pocket in your throat (areas of white) were a definite sign of strep throat. I thought I'd had it a number of times, and then, a few years ago, I really did. If you really have strep throat, you won't have any question about it. It is the worst sore throat you can imagine. If you are getting better, then rest and drink plenty of fluids.
Strep is a bacterial infection, and a cold is a virus.
