My cat actually had just ONE kitten. Cutest thing ever but he really drives his mom crazy because there are no other kittens to play with.

It depends on the breed. Abyssinian females are not very fertile, a large litter is 3 and a litter of 1 is not uncommon.

Nebelung's are known to have litters from 1 to 6 kittens.

I know a winning Persian breeder who owns a dam that routinely births 1 or 2 kittens, but they are almost always cat show winners.

A Maine Coon breeder friend of mine had a mother cat who gives birth to 1 or two kittens routinely from her first litter on. Maine Coon litters become smaller as the mother cat ages.

Yes that is weird. But where I live there is a black mommy cat with 2 little black kittens that follow her everywhere. She only had 2 kittens and I always thought cats had at least 4-6 kittens.

Lucky for the momma only having to nurse one kittie. poor kitty no one to play with. That is a bit weird but it's possiable that she only mated with one male and the male had a sucky sperm count. My cat was like a year when she had her first and only litter. I was so scared that one or more of the kittens would be a still born. Luckily my kitty was an awesome mommy and have 5 healthy active kittens :)

a number of nature's techniques look incredibly harsh and are very unsightly to us.the mum cats will eat their kittens now and back in the event that they experience that there is a few thing heavily incorrect with the kitten (the kitten grow to be probable unlikely to stay). This, in the wild, grow to be a fashion for the mum cat to restoration many of the potential she had lost giving beginning, to not waste anymore potential she could prefer to look after the healthful kittens, and to rid her nest of carrion that would charm to predators. Yes it is possible!! My cat had 5 kittens, but the other ones were born with their intestines hanging out of their belly buttons. They all died, which was so sad. Only the 1 survived!! She is 4 months old right now and will still nurse!! She aggravates the mother to death

I've never known of a cat having one kitten only. The odds must be great.

Yes I have heard of this before. My 14 1/2 year old Mike was an only Kittie. I really don't know what the odds are for that to happen though.

Yes, I had a cat a long time ago that I adopted from a shelter, had only one kitten. We didn't even realize she was pregnant til she went into labor. I thought it odd too in 1991!

I had a boyfriend who's cat only had one kitten both times she gave birth. And My cousin's cat only had one kitten so it does happen but it is rare.

It's not very common but I have heard of dogs and cats only having one at a time before. You should consider yourself lucky....7 or 8 are a real handful at about 5 weeks old.
