I choose to learn Excel to further my secretarial career. I choose not to take night classes or such. What is best way or program to learn Excel. And is it a hard program to learn. Isn't it simply spreadsheets or such?

If you like to learn on your own, you can buy a book or go to the library, Excel for Dummies is just fine to start with, to learn about spreadsheets.

You can also take online non-credit classes, that only last a short amount of time, like through Ed2Go:
http://www.ed2go.com (that's the generic web site, from there you can pick a college near you)

They offer Introduction, Intermediate and Advanced classes and are pretty good.

It might not hurt to make sure you buy a book that prepares you for the Microsoft Office certification exam for Excel, so you can take it if you want. It's a good way to prove to employers you actually know what you're doing. Here's info about the Microsoft certification:
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/officespecialist/default.asp

Since I have taught Excel Intro, Intermediate and Advanced classes for versions 97, 2000, and XP, I took the Microsoft Office 2003 exam for Excel without studying and passed it. There usually is not a lot of difference between each version of Microsoft office products.

Good luck!

There are good books out there - check out http://www.course.com and search for Excel. That's the series my Excel teacher used, and I still have the book right next to the computer to use as a reference.

Practice on it. Try to do different items and use the help function when you can't figure it out. You can go to your library and get a tutorial also.
