Well you see in the 1800's there was a betrothed couple taking a trip to America to wed. One night the couple got quite festive, wondered to the top deck, and enjoyed the crisp ocean breeze. The suitor had a present for his fair maiden, a diamond ring to rival all rings of that time. Unfortunately when He went to give her the ring he fell forward in a drunken stupor, resulting in the fair maiden falling over board. Hence the saying head over heals.
