I’m considering purchasing a bicycle. I’m interested in a women’s bike for casual use only. I do not require anything too fancy or sporty. I just want something that I can get on to ride up to the local coffee house or grocery store. I went online, but there are too many choices and was wondering if anyone has suggestions for a novice such as myself?

There are a large number of women’s specific bikes on the market, as you well know. Specialized is a good manufacture that makes bikes designed for women. If this is your first bike be sure to go to your local bike shop and talk to them about sizing and about the women’s specific bikes. Be sure to go to several bike shops and check out their bikes. Most bike shops only sell good bikes, and they also offer free tune ups so it’s a good deal. Depending on your size you might fit on a men’s bike, if you go to a good shop they will measure you and get you on the right size. It’s very important to feel comfortable on your bike so don’t shy away from getting a good fitting.

Women’s bikes tend to be shorter in the top tube, have shorter throw break levers, women’s specific saddles, and slightly smaller bars.

Good luck! Email me if you have any specific questions!

I think you should go to a dedicated bike shop, where they can give you good advice on a bike, and also, on which bike fits you. Probably a hybrid or mountain bike can be more confortable than a road bike.
