Recently I have noticed my six year old has under arm odor after having played a lot. He gets a bath every other day. I have always assumed body odor comes with puberty. He is not displaying any other signs of puberty. Has any one else experienced this?

Well let me just add my thoughts and put this to rest. You are a great parent and it is not your fault that your child has b.o. My daughter gets stinky! She has had this b.o. problem probably since she was 5 1/2 or 6 (she is almost 8).
Brought it up with the pediatrician, he said that some kids just start smelling earlier than others. She bathes daily, wears clean clothes, and plays like normal kids. She isn't large but she is taller than all the other kids in 2nd grade and she does have a bit of pubic hair. Scary, I know. But the pediatrician said not to worry no need for an endocrinologist right now, just a bit of mild deodorant.
My daughter knows to put it on daily and we go from there. Why make a big deal out of it parents, just give them some mild deodorant and talk to your pediatrician for professional opinion.

He probably has BO because he sweats. Sweating makes people smell sometimes.
If he has eczema and can't take a bath every day, at least let him shower. I had really bad eczema when I was smaller, but it's better now. I showered every day and I was fine though.
I think that he could have some sort of deoderant as long as it is hypoallergenic and won't irritate his sensitive skin. Unfortunately, I didn't have body odor a decade ago, so I cannot recommend any brands. Sorry.
Hope I helped!

Anyone who sweats can have body odor. Odor is simply bacteria growing, dying, etc... in the warm moist environment of an armpit.
My 2 year old likes to sleep in his shoes. They get really sweaty and as stinky as a highway worker's.
If he's really that active, you should do what you can to bathe him daily. Even at 6 years old, kids can notice the smells. You don't want him being the stinky kid in class.

he's just being very active, so that happens. After he finishes from playing just wash under his arms and ask the doctor if it's ok for him to wear deodorant now. It's not a disease a little odor won't hurt.

Body odor is commonly attributed to bacteria. This is most predominately exhibited with feet but occurs under the arms as well. It also stems from the body chemistry and foods that are digested as well. Just instruct him to wash under his arms well.
This brings me to a new point; you should watch the movie Big Daddy. There is a funny paradox here.

Yes, sometimes the sweat glands develop early. It is perfectly okay to get him some deodorant, if you feel he has sensitive skin there are some that are hypoallerginic. I had two children that needed to start using deodorant at this age, and puberty hit at 10 with the girl and 12 with the boy. The others were later, between the ages of 13 -15.

One thing I have learned from body odor: It can be caused by the foods you eat. The foods we put in our body can cause an excretion sometimes unpleasant. Has his eating habits changed? Since he already has excrema (sorry spelling wrong), definitely let his doctor know there could be a number of things going on.

Some children need deodorant. Use a powder based one that is mild like Secret or Suave Baby Powder. I had to use it on both my girls starting at age 4. Strictly metabolism, nothing more.
