Matthew 24:36 (NIV)
"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
Matthew 24:42-44 (NIV)
"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

There are other things that have to take place before the Second coming. The rapture, or the "catching away", as the Bible calls it..has to happen, then the anti-christ will step in. There will be three and a half years of peace, then all will turn to war. So approximately seven years after the catching away of the church..that is when the Second coming of Jesus will be.

The Second Coming will arrive after the battle of Armageddon, the final battle between good and evil on earth.
When.
No body knows.
First there must be "the" Anti Christ on earth. The Anti Christ will be a very popular world leader who the world will trust with the safety of the earth. He will deceive us, and cause great tribulations all over and all out war. According to prophecy.

Only in the due time of the Lord Jesus Christ. No one knows. But we must always be prepared. the lord has prepared us with signs previous to the second coming things like:
No one on the earth will see a rainbow for a whole year
two prophets in Jerusalem
the battle of armageddon
wars and rumors of wars (which is already happening)
etc.
the lord is preparing us if we just believe and trust in him we will be spared Physically and/or spiritually

Nobody knows, even Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Only God the Father knows.
Matthew 24:36 (KJ21, 21st Century King James Version)
36But of that day and hour, knoweth no man, no, not the angels of Heaven, but My Father only.

Some people think that the apostles, themselves, thought it was going to happen during their lifetimes. In fact, Paul proscribed marriage to Church followers because he thought that Christ's Second Coming was going to happen right away.
Large groups have predicted the Second Coming several times, especially right before the millenium (meaning 1000 AD) and then, of course, right before the second millenium.
Some Christians think it already *has* happened, such as (I believe) Shakers.
Me? I'm not a Christian, so I don't believe in a Second Coming. But I do find all of the predictions, that have been going on since Christ died, kind of funny.

Matthew 24:36
But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Matthew 24:35-37 (in Context) Matthew 24 (Whole Chapter)
Mark 13:32
But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
We need to make sure of one thing. Is to be ready when Jesus comes back.
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

The Bible says no man will know in advance. If someone claims to know, they are probably mentally ill, uneducated or plain stupid and repeating something they've heard from a wild eyed fundamentalist Christian.
