Saddest poem I've read. Don't read if you are already depressed. here it is:

I went to a party, Mom, I remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom, so I drank soda instead
I really felt proud inside, Mom, the way you said I would.
I didn't drink and drive, Mom, even though the others said I should.
I know I did the right thing, Mom, I know you are always right.
Now the party is finally ending
Mom, as everyone is driving out of sight.

As I got into my car, Mom, I knew I'd get home in one piece.
Because of the way you raised me, so responsible and sweet.
I started to drive away, Mom, but as I pulled out into the road,
the other car didn't see me, Mom, and hit me like a load.
As I lay there on the pavement, Mom, I hear the policeman say,
the other guy is drunk, Mom, and now I'm the one who will pay.

I'm lying here dying, Mom.. I wish you'd get here soon.
How could this happen to me, Mom? My life just burst like a balloon.
There is blood all around me, Mom, and most of it is mine.
I hear the medic say, Mom, I'll die in a short time.
I just wanted to tell you, Mom, I swear I didn't drink.
It was the others, Mom. The others didn't think.
He was probably at the same party as I.
The only difference is, he drank and I will die.

Why do people drink, Mom? It can ruin your whole life.
I'm feeling sharp pains now. Pains just like a knife.
The guy who hit me is walking, Mom, and I don't think it's fair.
I'm lying here dying and all he can do is stare.

Tell my brother not to cry, Mom. Tell Daddy to be brave.
And when I go to heaven, Mom, put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave.
Someone should have told him, Mom, not to drink and drive.
If only they had told him, Mom, I would still be alive.
My breath is getting shorter, Mom. I'm becoming very scared.
Please don't cry for me, Mom. When I needed you, you were always there.
I have one last question, Mom, before I say good bye.
I didn't drink and drive, so why am I the one to die?

yes this Poem is a good dose of reality for people who drink and drive or drink and do anything while being intoxicated. reading this Poem can make ya cry even if you are not depressed etc it just proves life is too short, there are consequences to all choices people make and drink driving is simply not a good choice because other people often get hurt by the people who have been consuming alcohol due to their perceptions and judgements while being intoxicated. Innocent people get hurt by irresponsible people.

It doesn't make me cry, because it happens everyday. The message behind the poem is true, however. Bad things happen to good people. Maybe it's because bad things make the good people stronger. I had something like that hit close to home to me recently, a friend of mine was murdered for basically wanting to go to college. He definitely didn't do anything wrong, he did what he thought was right and try to further his career. This poem doesn't make me cry, it just hurts because it's true.

That is sad that she died
I'm not crying
but I have a lump in me throat and tears are filling up in my eyes Why oh why do people drink and drive?
Don't they know it ruins lives?
This poem is only one example
there are hundreds more out there
and it always seems as if nobody cares

GOD BLESS PS I just made this messege up if you havn't noticed it's also a poem

No, it didn't make me cry but it is very sad. This poem has been around and circulating for years. It has a good message and it would be wonderful if more people would take it to heart. Innocent people dying due to someone's drinking and driving is very senseless.

The idea behind it is great, but the rhyming makes it a bit too sing-songy and Dr. Suess-ish to be taken seriously. When you force a poem into rhythm and rhyme, you sacrifice some of what you have to say by forcing words or sentence structures you wouldn't usually use. It takes something away from the message, in my opinion.

It is sad and often true. It happened to Jackie Saburido, her friends died but she didn't. They were all sober and hit by a 17 year old intoxicated driver.

This is probably the saddest story you'll see for a long time.

It's floating around on the internet at the moment - people are sending this like a chain letter.

I think the purpose of it is to remind people not to drink and drive - not a bad message at this time of year.

If it's too sad for you just don't read it.

Double posting now eh? I already told you, that poem was crap. Here's my version. It reflects teenage parties a little bit more realitistically.

That party was fun mom.
I got really high.
You said not to drink.
I didn't drink, I sucked some guys dink.
Are you missing your xanax? We did the drugs.
I gave everyone hugs.
You told me not to drink mom,
I wasn't drinking mom, I wasn't being dumb!
Then I got hit by a car
that car came from a bar
the guy watched me die
gosh, mom, I'm so high!
