After shampooing, rinse your hair with 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar (never use white vinegar) and 2 cups of water. Rub it in, let it sit while you get washed, then rinse very very thoroughly. Occasional use will not lighten your hair permanently, and it should bring out the red highlights very nicely. It's also an extremely effective treatment for dandruff.

You won't smell like a salad, btw, that's why you do the thorough rinse.

Have you tried veggie dyes? These contain no harmful chemicals and can really brighten up your hair.
You can see red dye results here:

Since you will not be bleaching and your hair is not blonde you will not get results like those shown in this gallery and instead the dyes should give a highlighted tint to your hair making it more vibrant looking but not neon like pics show. You could use a darker red such as devilish or divine wine etc instead of these brighter ones

Henna is good, lemon juice is too. Or just try getting out in the sun for an hour or so a day. That will do a lot!

sweetie, vinegar and lemon juice are chemicals! (acids) just that they are not as strong as the CLR (acid) or bleach (oxidizer) or hair dye at your local grocery store.
