I would say the heat....because you can burn your hair on contact and causes immediate breakage to your hair with or without heat protectant especially if you have fine hair to begin with. Mousse and hairsrapy overtime can EVENTUALLY cause longterm damage with prolonged use (depending on what kind you use). This is because they contain an ingredient called SD- Alcohol 40, similar to rubbing alcohol...look on the hairspray and mousse product and see if they contain this ingredient. This form of alcohol is very drying to the hair and sucks the moisture right out of it leaving you with stiff dry, breaking, straw like hair, especially if you use heat in conjunction with these products. I would advise that if you want to continue use scrunching products, opt for gels and mousse that do not contain alcohol. They usually specify if it doesn't on the package. Herbal Essences and Suave offer cheap alcohol free gels and mouse.
p.s
Do not confuse SD-40 alchol with other alcohols in the product such as cetyl alcohol. This alcohols and others are actually plant dervied alcohols that are beneficial to the hair and does not cause damage.

I think the hair straightener. When I was working full-time I washed my hair every day, put in mousse, then gel to scrunch the curls, then hairspray to hold. When I would shower the next a.m., all the gel and spray would slide right out of my hair. If I didn't use the mousse, then it was "sticky" when I was trying to wash it out. I think the mousse helps protect your hair.

If any of thoughs use heat, iron, blow dryer, or curlers that is what will do the most damage to the hair.
Use the products but do not stress out the hair by combing or brushing you hair with that stuff on your hair. Use conditionier, and if your hair seems dry put a oil hair treatment on it once in awhile.
I use heat actavated foam and spray that is the best stuff. The lady that cuts my hair said it is very healthy.

i would say the hair straightner and shine well not so much the shine but the hair hair straightner because it burns your hair and it makes it dry if you do it so much also its no longer moist or have hardly any shine naturally so it burns your hair, makes it dry more everysingle time you do it, it causes split ends, and it messes up your whole hair completely i think that the one that is more worse

probably the straightner....but, you can buy heat protectors for your hair...VO5 has a great one, I think it's called "Miricale Mist" or something like that (it's in a red spray bottle)....
I'll tell you this, I don't think it's what your putting in your hair that's damaging it, it's what your doing....like blow drying it damages it, straighting it damages it and so does curlying it with a curling iron.....
