Great question and thanks for participating in Yahoo's Q & A. MS-DOS has all but become a thing of the past, at least as most people know it. Since the birth of Dos based computers in 1959, changes have slowly come about. When Microsoft hit upon it's Windows programs, it skyrocketed us into a new technology which is now in almost every home and office on the planet. Yes, dos is still used as the base however, making the necessary commands is now done thru a different process and dos based knowledge is slowly getting away from us simply because it's no longer a necessity. I made sure, over the years, that I've passed down as much of that knowledge as possible to my children and friends because there are people who enjoy dabbling in the older system. You can, of course, go to dos by clicking on "Start, programs, accessories. Click on Command Prompt and you'll instantly be in dos. Be careful not to fool around too much while you're there as you can cause a lot of problems for yourself on the computer. Larry Radio Shack 01-9590

wow... dos is broken?

try opening windows command prompt...
Start > Run > cmd.exe

is this the DoS you are looking for? or the real MS DOS...

Start > Run > command.com

which is not the command prompt but DoS...

does it work? and if not.. I really am speachless, I have never heard of anything like this.
