Most protection methods would only provide you temporary protection as long as you are in an enclosure whether it is leadlined or whatever other suitable material according to the type and strength of radiation. Radiation is also absorbed by many kinds of matter, specially organic in nature. As we cannot see radiation, but it can only be detected by scientific means - therefore it is hard to say that your question can be answered correctly. It has a double negative.

FEMA lists three methods to protect yourself from radiation

1. shielding- lead is the best but anything is better than nothing
2. time- this works in two ways- exposure is reduced if you spend the shortest time possible around the radiation source. AND- the more time you wait after a radiation event, the less radiation will be there as it has decayed according to the 7:10 rule of thumb.
3. distance- the effects of radiation are reduced by the second power of distance- for example exposure at 2 meters is 4 times less than the exposure at 1 meter.
