Just tell the guy: "You know how you have a fight with someone and you say things you don't mean, and regret them later? Well, I was wrong to say that I would go out with you. I was just mad at my bf. I'm sorry if I hurt you". Because what it boils down to is if you break up with your boyfriend, and go out with this guy, and he turns out not to be the one, then you'll be mad cuz now you don't have nobody. You know what I'm sayin.?

You should never promise something you can't keep. But, in this situation... I'd say that you explain to your friend what happened (don't cover yourself up with lies) he needs the truth more than anything. And you can't let him being upset stand for the love between you & your boyfriend. Sure, you can hang out with your friend to help take things off of his mind. But you need to make sure he knows that you don't like him any more than a friend. Let him down nicely.

a promise is improtant but in this case u'll have to reconsider. if u and this friend are really tight then he would'nt make u fill a promise that u made while u were mad. u need to explain to your firend sthat u said it out of anger and u really dont want to go down that road. ok, it might hurt his feelings but to make him happy u'd have to shelf yours, which is worse. if hes a good friend he'll understand and back off. if not, well, u could ask your boyfriend for help

Where's the harm in going on a date with him. Nothing has to happen beyond that, and who knows maybe you'll see another side of your friend, that you might like even more than your current bf....Remember you're not married!!!

You need to be honest with your friend. You are in a relationship with another guy.
