I am six months pregnant, and over the past couple of months my dog, a 4-year-old spayed lab mix, has been exhibiting unusual behaviors. These include nesting, collecting and placing all her toys in her or our bed, hiding her food dish, and an apparent need to be physically closer to my husband and I. We are watching the special on the National Geographic Channel about animals in the womb, and they're describing similar behaviors as signs of false pregnancy. They explained that the false pregnancy evolved from all of the b*tches in a pack having to raise the pups of the dominant b*tch. I'm wondering if my dog could be going through a sympathetic pregnancy with me, or is she just being weird?

sympathetic pregnancies in dogs are physical events more than behavioral. However, she is definitely readying you and your 'den'' for birth. Dogs especially are aware of other pregnancies in the pack. You are right that in some realms of the dog world, all the bitches or the dominant botches raise the pups. While this may be cute to you, be aware that she may be exhibiting her dominance over your household (den) as evidenced by her behavior. The best thing you could do is to buy a baby doll and introduce her to the situation that will exist after you give birth. Most importantly, you will train her with the doll to show her the baby is yours. You can begin setting boundaries and limitations for her so that she does not become protective of the babies. Protective is not a good behavior; it means she is claiming the child and this can be dangerous for you and the baby. With the doll, do things as you would after the baby is born; put her/him to bed in the nursery, sit and rock, place him/her in a playpen, etc... watch your dog's behavior and be ready to correct her if she starts displaying dominance.
Watch The Dog Whisperer on NGEO Channel (Cesar Milan). You will understand this 'pack mentality' better and be a calm and assertive pack leader for your dog and your baby!
Best wishes!

If she is spayed ,it can't be a true false pregnancy, but some dogs are just naturally more nurturing than others.I had a male Beagle who was that way.He loved all baby animals and would lay on his side as if he wanted to nurse them,he would clean them as well. And I have a female German shepherd who is the same way. She was spayed at 5 months,so never even had a heat, but she will carry her toys around, whining and try to find a place to hide them. She licks them as though she is cleaning them, too, and she loves our cats.I don't know if you smell different to the dog because you're pregnant, but I'm betting that's what it is,and it makes her feel motherly. She will probably be very good with your baby,so take it as a good sign.

the only thank you to appreciate for specific is a VET. fake being pregnant shows the same signs and indicators as real being pregnant. Take her to the vet and discover out in 2 weeks. sure its too early to tell. And wager what college isn't an excuse for not having had your dogs fixed. It became into elementary sufficient to have had your woman spayed to circumvent this. super don't have the muddle aborted yet a minimum of properly known the reality you're risking your women existence by using proceeding with the being pregnant if she is in actuality pregnant. loss of existence is often achievable while breeding dogs and respected breeders understand this. you besides mght could be arranged for the reality she could choose a c-area. A spay is a lot greater decrease priced so purely have her spayed interior the subsequent week. they at the instant are not animals they are clumps of cells, IF she is pregnant. Secondly you could not assure your loved ones and friends will shop the puppies for something of their lives nor are you able to guarantee they could additionally nonetheless choose the puppies in 2 months while they are born. in case you do have puppies and you provide them away have them spayed and neutered before so somebody else isn't as irresponsible as you have been.

Dogs that are spayed do not have false pregnancies. She may be just reacting to your pregnancy, maybe feeling a little maternal. I bet she will be a wonderful companion for your child. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. Congrats on the baby to be and hope everything goes well.

all dogs have a touch of weirdness, that's what makes them so lovable. yes, they can have false preg symptoms. and labs are very close to their family (human ones included) picking up on feelings. have her checked out to be sure, or at least call the vet and ask. they are very loyal and devoted to children in the family usually. she sounds very special.
