I have never been on a diet before and honestly, i dont think i can stick to one. i have gained about 40 lbs. in the past 2 years from sheer laziness...i am 5'5" and 25 and weigh 166.

My question is, what are some things that I can easily cut out or consiously do to start loosing the lbs...like soda, candy...anything??

You should not be going on a 'diet' you should be changing your eating habits to healthy ones and begin an exercise program.

Yes, sodas (which can help you retain fat) need to go, so do all sugary things. Be careful of your salt intake, that helps to retain water, which is also weight.

Begin by looking at what you eat and how you prepare it. Do you fry, stop that. Broil or bake instead. It is healthier. Do you eat fatty meats, stop that. Begin to eat lean free range chicken, turkey, lamb, and fish (salmon is very good).

Make sure to eat lots of fruits and veggies. Apples and carrots, etc. are great raw as snacks. Make sure you are eating lots of deep green and red veggies, those are very good for you. Limit your bread intake. Use little butter, no margerine.

Drink lots of water, carry around a water bottle and keep drinking all day long. This helps to carry toxins out and hydrates your insides.

Exercise. Walking daily is a great way to go. Everyday at the same time, push yourself out the door. Motivate yourself with a friend if necessary. Just do it. It isn't just about looking better, it's about feeling better and good health. You can do this!

my son has celieac sprue and he had to cut out all of the wheat from his diet and lost a lot of weight ....just cut the bread for a month and see what happens

seems like you know the stuff we all know it im fat too but with the winter coming i dont feel like going to the gym also i can't get enough of cookies and stuff like that.....but if i work out and do veggies i will loose weight i know it and so do you!..good luck

cokes. but you don't really cut anything out just watch how much you eat. oh yea and stay away from junk food

sweets, not that you are eating them, but also bread and dariy. And red meat
