My friend adopted a Rat Terrier from a shelter last week. The doggie came home with a cough. Now he has a full blown Kennel Cough. She took him to the Vet and he is on antibiotics. The Vet said that should clear on 48 hrs. It's kennel cough contagious for humans, or could I bring the virus with me to my dogs at home since I had the sick doggie on my lap?

No, that is not contagious to human beings whether that's to different dogs. If a dogs has KC that's smart to maintain it far off from different dogs. My Vet recommends Benilyn Paediatric cough drugs, one million tspoon thrice consistent with day for dogs with KC. This helps to ease the throat yet i'm afraid you basically could enable it run its course, which could be approximately 3 weeks. 2 months is fairly an prolonged time on your dogs to be nonetheless coughing. i think of i might have a be conscious including your Vet to rule out the different well-being matters.

It is not contagious to humans but is to other dogs. I once watched a puppy for a friend of mine who had kennel cough. After the puppy went home my Black Lab came down with it. At any rate, your friend did the right thing and took it to a vet. It does not cure itself. Use a hand sanitizer after playing with the little fella.

Bordetella infection can be picked up by rabbits, guinea pigs, pigs, cats (if they are very young and housed in groups), and other dogs. It is not contagious to humans though it is closely related to Bordetella pertussis, the agent of Whooping Cough. Among dogs it is fairly contagious depending on stress level, vaccination status, and exposure to minor viruses.
