in canada, or maybe the uk if you don't know about canada, what is the legal age when instead of listening to your parents pi$$ and moan at you, you can tell them to just get f**ked?? (in other words when are you your 'own boss'). Please help! I'm eager to stop listening because I'm starting to get pissed off about being told what to do and my parents thinking that they do stuff 'because they can'. GRRRRR! I don't want to run away from home or anything drastic though.

Thanks people!!!

although it may seem like they only want to piss you off, they are only trying to do whats best for you. and you need to learn some respect. if you were my child and i knew that you had spoken about me the way you just spoke about your parents, i would take that computer and beat you over the head with it. you need to grow up before you can be your own boss

Really, there isn't a 'legal' age when you can tell your parents to get f**ked. I mean, you can tell them at any time and it would still be rude, even if you are 30! My daughter is 15 and we have similar arguments - just had a massive one last week and she went to stay at her friends house for a few days otherwise I may have killed her (not literally, but nearly) I know that she is 'under my roof' but it's her home too and she needs to feel like a valued part of the home as well as contributing to it. She does chores and stuff but also has a couple of jobs which help her have some independence and money too. You don't say how old you are but I'm guessing you already have some income because you bought your computer?
I think it would help your parents if you explained to them how you want to be and how you would like them to treat you. You always have to give respect to get respect and I think they ultimately want the best for you so maybe you should ask them what they want for you too.
Finally, if you want to have total control of your life, get good grades, a secure job and work towards your future (maybe you should think about how you would treat your son/daughter in the same situation)
Good luck!

The age aspect is not important. Your starting with the wrong premise. Just remember that as you approach adulthood you tend toward being a guest in the house. Visualise having a younger brother/sister messing up your room all the time - You'd want to set up rules too. Can you see yourself there when you are 30?

Best thing is to keep your room clean, keep you head down around the house and find some activities outside the house if your getting cheesed off.

And set yourself up with an escape plan - into a job or university or whatever. Chill man....Don't waste energy arguing.

My parents also used the @while you're under my roof, you'll abide by my rules'. I know its really frustrating and generally, teenagers don't want to be told what to do! I certainly didn't. Parents just want to look out for their kids and do the best for them. Unfortunately, there is no right manual on how to treat your kids and though you may think you're old enough to have your own rules, I'm afraid that they are your parents and you do need to respect them. However, respect is a 2-way street!! Perhaps sit down with them and try to work out a compromise where you are all happy.

Good luck!!

I spent the whole of my teenage years thinkin my parents were just trying to annoy me and now I am older I realise why they did what they did and I can see I am a better person for it. They will respect you a lot more if you sit down and tell them that you are annoyed with them and why (calmly!) rather than telling them where to go! Have a sensible, calm, adult chat with them and you may find things improve.
Good luck!

in the eyes of the law once you reach 18 in the uk the parents are no longer legally responsible for you, but in their own home you should respect them.

As long as you live under their roof you have to abide by their rules and be respectful. They really aren't out to piss you off toots.
