I found out on Friday that the cheerleaders for our American Football team at University are the National Champions.
Because this is the only thing that Southampton Solent University has ever achieved, we hold cheerleading in high regard!
I think that all men in the UK are of the opinion that cheerleaders are one of the top three greatest American inventions, along with condensed soup and deep-pan pizza.

No. I'd imagine most people here would think it's a bit sexist and exploitative. If a football (soccer) team tried to bring out a bunch of dancing girls there'd be an outcry. Lets face it, they're not there to "cheer" the team on or to "psych up" the crowd no matter how much they want to believe it. They're there for "eye-candy" for the men. It's 2006 not 1906, dancing girls at halftime are a thing of the past, and thankfully so.

Cheerleading is a great part of any school team as it encourages the team to do well, and if the team is doing rubbish then they are something to watch as an alternative source of entertainment

Cut & Paste from the other question about this:
I think I saw a few cheerleading girls on TV not so long ago.
Thankfully it's not big at all - it's an American tradition we would like you to keep.
We've already got McDonalds etc... We don't need to ape you in everything, do we?
PS I'm sure you're nice - but it's just so American...

I'm sure that all the cheerleaders are really nice individuals who want nothing more than to relieve world poverty and love their moms and dads etc. etc. etc......BUT, goodness, they are boring, and a distraction from the event.
It might be interesting to see the "best" US girls sitting out many of the long, wet, freezing, windblown games that we take for granted over here. When their legs and arms are blue and covered in goose bumps, and they shiver their way through their routines they might not look quite so well.

Why do you think we'd be compelled to copy the US in everything we do???
Its cold, windy and pi55ing down with rain most of the time here.
The most popular sports we play/watch here are not 'U.S.' sports. All our team sports are over in 90 mins or less usually because the weather is that sh1t. So no, we don't have cheerleading teams.

I Think it's amazing i always wanted to be one of the base guys that chuck you lot in the air...instead ive ended up being a Dj but would of loved the oppertunity to do something like cheering when i was in School...not only keeps you really fit ,gives you stamina and a confidence boost...
cheerleaders rule...everyone wants to be one whether they want to admit it or not -

There are a few but I think the general consensus is that it's a bit sexist and exploitative.
Try googling for cheerleading>U.K

More entertaining than most of the sports.
An how can you call it a World series when only you guys can play???
There aren't so many schools that have them but some of the pro sports do.
