I am not sure what puppy food you are referring to, talking about a milk replacer or canned food??

I will answer for a milk replacer for any puppy. The accepted formula is whole milk, warmed plus drop of liquid infant vitamens. There are milk replacers and some can cause real problems. As we have had to bottle feed 1000s over the years we became experts! The powdered type that is mixed with water is a nightmare!! Doesn't dissolve thoroughly and gets clogged up in the intestines/stomach--can kill.

I will start with canned goats milk for a very small or at risk pup. Sold in grocery stores in the "baking goods" aisle. Anyformula must be warm and the pup too in order to digest. Cold can kill quick. Goats milk is the easiest to digest and can be used for any infant.

The magic, guaranteed formula for about 4 wks on is Gerbers Rice Cereal mixed with warm milk to make a thin "soup" which pup can lap up or use medicine dropper. A small breed like a Chi can stay on this until 7-8 wks, depending on teeth. Then start adding the puppy chow to "soup" to soften. Then wean just to dry food. I always raise some big pups using these formulas.

The choice of dry puppy food will largely depend on being bite size for a Chi mouth!! Don't start the canned food nightmare! Main reason they end up with bad breath and rotted teeth from eating can/soft food.

Hope I answered your question.

Well I just emailed that idiot, and told them to take their post down. It was obvious all they have are some really cute muts. They are not chihuahuas. Thats for dang sure. I told them that people that didn't know any better would buy these puppies and realize that they turned into these huge dogs and they would wind up in shelters. I also said what they are doing is called false advertising. Hopefully they take it down or fix it.

Do you have this puppy?

A puppy should not be taken from its mother until it can eat solid food.

Please provide more information.

If the puppy is orphaned, please look in your phone book and get information from an animal shelter.

If it is after business hours, call a wildlife rehabber (rehab = rehabilitation) - they always know about domesticated animals, too. If the rehabber can't help you, he or she will know someone who can!

You obviously have access to the internet - if all else fails, google for a dog rescue - try breed specific with the name of your state first.

Bueno suerte!
