I have two dogs that are the same breed. They are actually brothers and one isn't potty trained. When he would do his business on the floor, his brother would eat it. What is the problem with this. I know it isn't normal, so what is wrong?

It's not necessarily normal but it is very common. I had a Basset hound that would eat her own poo only in the winter months. I called them poopsicles. Anyway, my sister's Sheltie dog eats his own poo and also poo out of the cat's litter box. My dog occasionally eats his poo but I have put the fear of God in him so he doesn't do it very often anymore. (I do not beat him, I just give him the "better not do it" look) There is something you can get from the vet that may help but I can't remember what it is called. Call your vet and he should be able to recommend something. Good Luck to you and your pups!

OMG I just found my female pup to be doing the same thing too this morning. I don't know how many times she's done it but I was totally grossed out. My pups are 5 months and they too are brother and sister. I guess the only thing to do is monitor them and make sure they know it's not what they should be doing.

lots of young dogs eat their own poo. for the longest time my young dog would dig in the litter box and eat my cats poo. This idea is normal however should not be promoted, take the poo away and let your dog know this is not acceptable

I seen that feeding you dog pineapple help to stop them from eating their poop. I think the pineapple make the poop tastes nasty to them but the poop eating is most likely a sign that you dog is not getting it need out of its food so they eat it again to try and get more. Ask you vet about changing your dog's diet. If its not the diet your dog my just be attracted by the strong smell of the poop.

Dogs that eat there own crap usually means there not getting enough vitamins or the dog food. When my dog did that I switched dog food and she stopped. There is something they sell for that at the petstore to put a end to it.

A lot of dogs do it, for why I do not know. But I know how you can stop it. Give your dog his usual dinner with some pineapple mixed in. When he next goes to the toilet he won`t like the taste.

my vet said that there was somethng that my rat terrier wasnt getting enough of.
So i tried all kinds of food and she kept doing it. It isnt healthy because they could get all kinds of things from others dogs poop. i mean just think about it for a few seconds.
So i went to petco. and got DETER (Coprophagia Treatment) and went by the directions thank goodness piper isnt eating other dogs poop. It works to.

Many do, but it is because it is a lack some vitimans and minerals. I suggest switching to a high quality food (if your not feeding one) actually.. what are you feeding?? That should be asked before I say switch.. Its not a good thing for them to do, as they can also contract worms from it. There is stuff you can add to his food to make him stop doing eating it...Dont allow it.. its not a good thing.

Disgusting, but normal. I have to jump up like I've got a spring in my seat if I hear the cat hacking because the dog'll beat me to it otherwise.

My vet said that it was normal especially for puppies. They usually outgrow it. If it still keeps happening you can add somethings to their food, the only one I can remember is meat tenderizer. I guess it makes poop taste really bad, like it tastes good...lol. Mine does it. Atleast she hasn't developed a taste for "kitty roca."
