I think that there are many values that a parent can instill into their child that will pave the way for others to follow. I want to teach my children respect for theirselves and others, responsibility and open-mindness.
Respect I feel will build the foundation for good manners, honesty and so that they can have loving and meaningful relationships . Responsibility will teach them what is important, allow them to admit when they are wrong and own up to their actions, help them learn independence and promote trustworthiness. And open-mindedness will teach them to open their hearts and minds, to have compassion and show generosity to others, by being appreciative of what they have and and helping those less fortunate.
There are more than just three values I would like to pass on to my children, but if I can teach them these at least, then I can say that I've made a good start and the rest will follow suit with my loving support and guidance.

I have 6 little girls and this is what we are instilling in them.
1. Family, your sisters are the best friends you will ever have. Protect them, love them at ALL costs(that may not be technically a "value" but I believe it is!)
2. Responsibility. My 2 year old does chores and all of mine have their set chores and do not argue a bit about it because we have started young.
3. Respect. Respect for each other, their parents, objects, and others.
I do have to say one thing. I have 6 girls that range in age from 1 year old to 9 years old. And I get atleast one compliment every single time we are in public about how well behaved my children are. You will NEVER see one of my children throwing a tantrum(and I have a 1, 2, and 4 year old in there!) or acting disrespectful.

Patience- the ability to wait till you are acknowledged while the person you came to see is finished with what they were doing first.
Gratitude- Especially when receiving a gift. It may not be what you wanted but be grateful someone thought of you as special enough to get you a gift.
Honor- The ability to think and make decions for themselves and not be duped into taking a foolish chance with their lives by experimenting with drugs ,alcohol,or joining some gang. Also to learn to stand up and defend those who can't defend themselves. "Doing what is right is more dangerous than doing what is popular".
