I have OCD and started seeing a therapist about 8-10 weeks ago. I know there is no time limit for getting help, but shouldn't I be noticing some changes in myself by now? I feel utterly hopeless because I feel like I'm so messed up, even a professional can't help me. My family can't afford this for much longer. Is something wrong or missing?

I have no idea what the timeline for recovery is, there are probably on line support groups to help you. you may need to see a psychiatrist, which is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication to help with your OCD

I think you have the wrong idea when it comes to therapy. It is YOU that does the work. The therapist does not wave a magic wand and you are all better.

Are you following their suggestions? Are you making the effort to control your thoughts as much as you can? Ask the counselor for a sliding scale rate if it is getting too expensive for your family.

Discuss with the therapist that you are wanting to see more results and ask what you can do to achieve this. Educate yourself about this disorder so you fully understand how you can help yourself. You can do this. Take care.
