This is common in poodles. Check out this link. You can also buy it at Petco and Petsmart.

My poodle had the same thing happen and eye drops the vet gave me never worked on her. But that was years ago. Maybe there is a better way to treat it now. Poodles must have a predisposition to this. My poodle was light and the red stains were very obvious. I knew they were so annoying to her also. I resigned myself to gently wiping her stained face daily with a damp soft wash cloth. Sometimes the stains dried and a few hairs got a little crispy, and so I had to carefully trim the affected hairs with a tiny scissors. I don't recommend doing that unless you are confident in your skills and that the dog would allow it. I really understand how you feel. I hope some other answerer gives you the cure! I'd check with your vet (if you haven't already done so). Good luck. P.S. - I love poodles.

Sounds like eye snot to me. If there is a moderate amount of discharge from your dog's eyes, this is normal. But to keep it from hardening and leaving discoloration, take a wash cloth and soak it in warm water and GENTLY wipe away from her eyes.

If there seems to be a lot of discharge, take her to the vet because this could be a sign of a more serious problem.

This is a natural thing. You can continue cleaning the areas, but the spots will always come back. This problem comes with the breed and of course the fur color. Unfortunately, there isn't anything you can do to make them permanetly disappear.
