Short-legged Jack Russell terrier. But it is hyper, and wants to be with you always, unless it is playing with another dog. Mine wants to sleep in the bed beside me, and wants to be petted and to play all the time, if she sisn't sleeping, eating, or playing with another dog. very, very loving. very smart. great companion.
Fox terrier, they ahve a temperament that is similar to shortie russell terriers, but aren't really as smart.
Golden retrievers are revered for their loyalty and temperament, supposed to be the most popular choice for an all aournd family dog.

SAINT BERNARDS. My family has 2, and before our 2 we used to have 1- although, if you're going to go with a saint bernard, go for the males- the females are loving, but they are very aggressive towards other dogs, and they're very protective. The male saint bernards are so loving and cute, and they love to cuddle. They don't really drool a lot though, as some movies may suggest... [Beethoven]. They love other dogs, and are very friendly towards strangers. They're sort of "dopey" though, so if you're looking for an extremely smart dog... you might want to go for another breed. Now, ever since we had our first saint bernard, my dad won't choose another breed to go with. You'll also be the center of attention when you walk them around the neighborhood.

Do you want a big dog or a small dog? If you want a big dog, Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers are very gentile and affection dogs. If you want a small dog, Yorkshire Terriors are very sweet and loving. My sister in law has three of them, and they are all very sweet. I had a little Pomeranian for 13 years, I found her at the shelter. She was the sweetest little dog, and so cute-that's her picture as my avitar. I suggest looking at your local shelter. There are so many nice dogs there who desperately need good homes.

Mastiff by far. They're loyal, devoted, loving, gentle. They will give their lives for you and love you for eternity. They are well known as having a sixth sense- They can tell when there's something 'off' about a person and will stand between you and that person. They aren't aggressive but are certainly intimidating when they're not happy.
The sixth sense extends towards them being able to sense if you're feeling uneasy or sad. They will comfort you.
They are fragile emotionally and if you yell at them they will be heart-broken.
They are wary of strangers until you let them know they're okay in your books and they will then welcome the stranger.
They are well known as "hero dogs"
I have heard stories of Mastiffs rescuing his owner from a burning house and then hearing the cat meowing inside so he ran back inside to rescue him but he ended up dying inside next to the cat.
I've heard of them breaking down doors to protect their owner who was being beaten- the Mastiff leapt on him and pinned him down but the man was able to repeatedly punch the Mastiff in the face. The Mastiff never bit the man he took the beating while protecting his owner until the police arrived.
As far as daily care. They require little exercise, they're not high-strung in any way and are just happy to be around you. They are very striking dogs to look at, males weighing in at about 200lbs +. They have enormous heads and their looks just scream power and nobility.
Can you tell I'm in love?
