We took him to the vet today and he said he didn't think he had it but he didn't test for it. He has all the signs he's throwing up several times an hour, his poop is either bloody or a yellow liquid, and he's in horrible pain.

The vet gave us meds and told us to make sure to give them to him but he won't keep them down, he throws them up like 5 minutes after taking them. He also gave him a Hyathal shot. Would that make him throw up? Because he wasn't doing that before the shot.

I'm just so worried, he's our baby so we take such good care of him. I just feel so useless watching him suffer like this. What else besides Parvo could it be since the vet had no answers? And could he even get it since he's almost 2 and up to date on all his shots?

Couple of questions for you and perhaps to call and ask.
Did he do a fecal as whips/hooks can cause the bloody nasty stool and make a very sick dog? Did he explain what he thought was wrong and what the meds are for? Have you called back per the increased vomiting??

Yes, we have run into older dogs with years of vetting suddenly die. Autopsy revealed Parvo??! This hit bad in this area for awhile. Was not in isolated community either, in area of State. Obviously there are some strains mutating!!OMG. All happened after weeks of heavy thunderstorms--disease spread thru groundwaters?

I strongly urge a call back to vet if he is your regular vet and you trust. If not, seek a second opinion and insist on fecal/bloodwork. Keep the dog hydrated if at all possible. If can not keep down fluids then run-don't walk- to the vet. Do not leave without answers or the dog as IV fluids will be needed by now.
Best of thoughts for yur dog.

If he coughing or sneezing at all?

Sometimes severe cases of kennel cough can cause a dog (esp on meds) to experience runny/mucusy stool as well as throw up from throat irritance and be lethargic and sore. Did your vet rule out this at all?

I have 4 dogs and 4 cats, and have worked for a shelter and 3 vet clinics. I can say that there are chances where a vet isn't as great as they need to be, so I understand your concern. It has taken us 2 years to find a vet we really trust the results of.

You can always check around for a low cost clinic (or simply another secondary vet if you can swing the second cost of a check-up) and get another opinion. Just like with people, there are incompetent vets and second opinions can often save you costlier scarier treatment down the line.

Try looking up a VCA hospital near you. If you're a Southern CA local, a FABULOUS vet in our area is BlueCross Vet Hospital in Long Beach CA.

We had a dog that got parvo pretty early on like your describing. Thankfully the vet helped her and she lived. That was 10 years ago and she is sitting next to me right now. I'd get a second opinion. A dogs life is too important to gamble.

Maybe go to another emergency Vet clinic because it sure sounds like Parvo to me too.

Read this, it says you have to keep the dog hydrated

Shots are no guaranty. They just help keep the odds in your favor.
You might want a second opinion from another vet. Soon.
