Fishing prespawn is awesome, so why not keep them off the beds?

I would say it depends on what species it is. I don't see a problem pulling gills and ears off the beds.

well- we do keep fish off spawning beds.
but we limit our catch also.
some areas are vastly overstocked.

others aren't.

so you have to really work the area as well as know which fish should not be kept.

Well, logic should answer your question,if you keep females full of eggs,she wont lay those eggs,so that would mean that there will not be as many fish next year.multiply that by how many other people do it ,equals no fish for anyone.But if your starving and that is gonna be your family's meal, go for it.

Because in some areas it's illegal. I'm not a game warden and I don't know the laws of everywhere so don't ask me where all this law applys.

Legally there is nothing that states you can't keep them if you catch them off their bed, other then state, regulations, per size, quantities and per season.
