I have 9 cats. I have never been allergic to cats. Recently, my manx has started to make me sneeze. every time he gets on me, my eyes water, my nose runs, and I sneeze over and over. None of the other cats do this to me. My manx has long hair, but so do some of the others, although I've heard it isn't the hair but the dander that causes problems anyhow. The only difference I can see between him and the other cats is that he drools whenever he is petted. Anyhow... Anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

What Causes Cat Allergies?
A glycoprotein, Fel d 1, secreted by the sebaceous glands, is the major cat allergen. This allergen is found in the fur, pelt, saliva, serum, urine, mucous, salivary glands, and hair roots of the cat. The main sources of the allergen, however, are the skin and saliva

I think that it might be that some cats have more of this protein on them and might cause more of a reaction.

I think I might have an allergy to my cat and I have never had that with other cats.

Some cats have fur and some have hair. The fur ones seem to hold more allergens in them and I know when mine jumps up with me I start the sneezing, watery eyes, the can't breath bit. The ones with hair no problem. Also I noticed some kitty litter...seems to take your breath away, from the smell of chemicals or dust. I've tried alot of stuff and have not remedied the situation yet. Good Luck

Your longhaired Manx is called a Cymric. If he is anything like mine his hair is a bit finer and much silkier than the other cats. When I hold and pet my Kimmie I have the same problem, not always, but most of the time. There are times I can't even brush her. It may be the texture of his fur when it gets in your nose.
