I've tried most of them and I find that most of them are more concerned image than taste. Several don't even seem to test their recipes. Nice reading but I find that I never use any of the recipes. There are a few that do provide recipes that are both interesting and practical on a regular basis. Here are the ones that have worked for me:
--Everyday Food (from Martha Stewart's co.)
--BHG's 'Appetizers' and 'Italian'
--Rachel Ray's Magazine (can't remember the name)
--Cook's Illustrated

Taste of Home
Country Cooking
Cooking for One or Two (you can scale up if there are more in your family)
Mr. Food's Easy Cooking
Real Simple (actually intermediate. I think Martha Stewart has her hand in this one)
Every Day with Rachel Ray
Every Day Food
These are a few of the 'easier' magazines I get. But I'm considered an 'advanced' cook (culinary school between two other college stints. LOL), so you may want to hit their webistes and look at some recipes before you order the mags.

Forget cooking magazine. That's just something to stack up around the house. I wanted to get into cooking back in August so I went to www.recipezaar.com.
I can keep everything online, keep track of favorites in my cookbook, print recipes, search for recipes based on whatever I'm craving, and ask questions on their forums when I have an idea about something but want guidance.
The recipes are from other people like us and there's just so much to fit every type of cooking lifestyle. I can't say enough about how much I love that site and how much I've enjoyed cooking the recipes from there.

Cooking Light does have a lot of sweet things in it, and pretty easy to make. Quick Cooking is very simple. Rachael Ray's 30 Minute magazine is decent (even though I don't care for her). Bon Appetit has gotten too fancy over the years, and Gourmet and Food & Wine barely have any recipes anymore.
There's another one called Light & Tasty (I think) that's like Quick Cooking, just healthier.

Cuisine at Home is a great magazine that has great recipes, tips, and product reviews. Each issue features just a few entrees, appetizers and desserts, The recipes are easy to follow and your friends will think you're a gourmet chef.

I like Everyday Food, despite being a Martha Stewart production. It offers good tips, the recipes are well thought out, and easy to follow. And the food tastes good! Cooking Light is also good.

Everyday food is good. It has a wide variety of recipes each month, and it uses mainly fresh, seasonal ingredients. None of the recipes require fancy or hard-to-find ingredients, and there is often interesting nutritional or cultural information.
