There are so many things you can do, but never discount the value of a healthcare proffessional. Exercise on a regular basis releases endorphines which are fabulous for both stress and depression. A healthy diet rich in Omega 3 and fatty acids help with the ceratonin levels. A well balanced diet in addition is a good idea. Meditation helps more than most give it credit for. Also there are some otc herbal mood enhancers you can take such as St. John's Wart. Just make sure you always let the doctor know when you are taking this when they ask you what if any meds you are taking as St. John's Wart in particular thins the blood out. Good Luck!

If you have clinical depression, it WON'T go away without help. It's a physical change in your brain, not something you can just wish away. You will need medication and psychological therapy. If, however, you just have a morose type of personality, then perhaps you can change and help yourself. But you have to WANT to do it. Start with baby steps. Smile. Smile at people, smile at your family, smile when you are by yourself. Smile, smile, smile, until it feels natural. You don't have to wear a huge, goofy grin, just a small, pleasant smile will do. Change things so that you have happiness around you. Watch comedies on TV, look at funny You Tube videos. Don't watch or read the news - THAT will make you depressed even if you aren't already! Read fun books when you can, nothing sad. Watch funny movies. Try to laugh as much as you possibly can. Make your bed every day. I'm serious! There have been studies done that say making your bed can set you up to have a much nicer day! If it's at all possible - and IF YOU CAN PROPERLY TAKE CARE OF IT - get a pet. A cat would be great, but gerbils or pet rats (you MUST get at least two of these, same gender - two boys OR two girls) will also make your life more worth living. (Please don't get a pet unless you can afford vet care and have the means to take excellent care of it.) Get some exercise. Walk outside when the weather is nice and really try to enjoy it. Make sure you get plenty of sleep. A teenager needs about 9 hours a night. Whatever you do, do NOT self-medicate (take drugs) or use alcohol. That would be a total disaster! If you aren't clinically depressed, you can CHOOSE to be happy. Good luck!

First, you can do some easy things like schedule your day so you don't feel like you are running around not sure what to do next. Every day, make a list of the most important things, get those done first and take care of the rest after that.
Next, continue your schedule with making proper time for study, and any projects, taking breaks to relax by doing healthy things; walking, biking, etc. daily. This also helps with depression by elevating endorphins which make you feel good.
Do some deep breathing, slowly, close your eyes and envision a peaceful place. Listen to calming music. Don't drink caffiene or sodas. Drink water.
Take a nice relaxing bath with lavender oil, known for releaving tension. Get a massage, if possible.
Eat healthy, limit salt, fatty foods. Take a good multi.
There are school counselors who can help too, I suggest you talk to them if the depression persists or the problems worsen.

Walking is a great way to get rid of stress. If you have access to a hot tub, I would reccommend that too. I have one and it really helps after a stressfull day. If you don't have that, go to walmart and buy one of those that attach to your tub. Make and take time for you. If you feel like you need to take something, go natural. I would not let a doctor put me on anything. b12 helps for stress, along with a good natural vitamin.
Good luck :) shelley

I've dealt with stress and anxiety my whole life. The dr. has prescribed me medicine for "EMERGENCY" only. Daily things you can do are to take a multi vitamin and Say NO to caffeine. Caffeine always triggers my stress and anxiety. Drink a lot of water and just keep telling yourself positive thoughts throughout the day

i recently bought a yoga relaxation dvd. i shut myself in a room and put it on when things get overwhelming. there are 20, 30 and 40 minute sessions. i've also read that meditation is a good way to boots yourself. it's proven to have the same benefits of anti-depressants than medication. i have a good book that gives you step-by-step daily instructions to learn to meditate. it starts with 5 minute sessions per day and works up to longer ones. it's good. i also read "the happiness hypothesis". it's a really good book that is well researched and pleasant to read. i've been recommending it to everyone. good luck! you can do it! :)

When you wake up, step up and down on The Step for 5-15 minutes.
Before you go to breakfast, stand in your kitchen, hands on the counter top. Squat up and down slowly. 10 times. Step back a bit and place your hands on the edge of the counter top. Do counter top pushups 10 times. Put one foot back, firmly on the floor, and do lunges, stretching your leg. 10 times. Then do the other leg.
When you come home, repeat the stretches, and before you go to bed, repeat the step.
There is other exercises you can do. But this will help.

please try to get a hold on this without meds, i've been on meds for 3 years for depression and anxiety. i wish i wasn't so weak at that time and tried something else before running to the doctor. it is so hard to come off the meds. try yoga, exercising, do some "me" time. breathing techniques to help relax, and communicate. talk to everyone close to you, tell them how you feel, hold nothing in. i wish you the best of luck, do lots of research.

Well just try doing things you like. Maybe videogames, t.v., exercise, phone, sports, or hanging out with friends. I'll admit I was really stressed out with school last month I just started hanging out with friends and keeping my mind off school.
