My husband suffers from a bad back (of the lumbar region)...Someone suggested we buy a 'memory form' mattress that moulds itself to your body as you sleep....Since then his back has gotten worse, especially in the morning when he first get's up, but as the day goes on the pain eases.....Does anyone else have a similar problem or know why...i thought these beds were supposed to help!

Same thing with me. I got a hard mattress to replace the memory foam job and the new mattress is made with felt over coils and this is on an innerspring with coils. No more problems from mattress. Next problem resolved was to throw away my pillows and buy some GOOD pillows -firm ones- made with foam (not the cheap 6-10 dollar ones from Target). I learned to sleep so that my neck rested against the bottom curve of the pillow and wasn't arched because of my head was on the pillow. Now---no pain and this old fogey is older than dirt and feels every twinge and ache that comes along.

Both my husband and I suffer from back problems. We have found that a 5` bed is the best as you have more of your own space, and a firm mattress has been the best solution. I think roll together is a big cause of back ache on getting up. The Adjustamatic beds look good as you can have a double bed but with 2 separate mattresses, therefore no roll together, but they are expensive.

You need a good FIRM mattress with no extra blankets if you are going to co sleep. We just went shopping for mattresses yesterday as a matter of fact, and I find that the memory foam would be too soft for a baby to sleep on. Our 8 month old occasionaly sleeps with us so we had to go for a firmer mattress, I think you should too. I don't know why people say sids is increased by cosleeping, its not. In fact cosleeping is proven to reduce sids as long as proper precautions with mattresses and blankets are taken.

This sounds like he needs to see a chiropractor. Chiropractors have been indicated to be the best option for spinal problems such as back and body pain. You probably have subluxations in your spine that can cause inflammation around the nerves coming out of your spine and this can then cause a number of problems within the body where these nerves innervate. Chiropractic is totally safe and very effective. They look to correct the cause of the problem not just cover it up with a medication that will ultimately do more harm than good. I strongly suggest seeing a chiropractor for this problem.

I had the same problem when I changed my matress.
It has got better, my chyropracter thinks there a good thing.
Does your husband stay on his back all night? I ask because when I have a restless night an sleep twisted its more painfull than my old matress.
My back is definately better than it used to be and I do put a lot of that down to the matress. But make sure you dont twist.

It might make things worse. No cure is fool proof - there will always be some people who need a different treatment. I have heard good things about these mattresses but if your husband is worse for using it then it can't be working for him!

Try massage thearpy or chiropractic.
There's no way to know what it is from your limited description. It sounds like the pinched nerve in my back, but it sounds like lots of other stuff too. A Dr. or chiropractor (who takes X-rays before working... not all do.) can tell you what it is. A massage theariptis can likely ease the pain, if it's something like what I have. I live for my massage thearpy!

I have a chronic back problem and found the memory matress to be unhelpful. I was worse with it than without it. When I spoke to my physio about it he said that many people were doomed to disappointemnt with them because they do not give support. If your back is in a bad position to start with, thats where it stays!...;

Yes we also bought one of these damn things It wasn't cheap either. We used it 2 nights. I was in agony. The foam sort of goes soft so that your body sinks into a hole, which is very uncomfortable. Every time you want to turn over, you need to waken up to push yourself out of the hole.

It's just a gimmick in my opinion. And a LOT of people got stung.
