you cant uninstall it from your old computer - you need to find the disk you used to install it, then you can re-install it off that (up to 3 times in total I think) If not, try and borrow the disk off a friend, because you can use it up to 3 times, or buy a 2nd hand one off amazon or ebay. Otherwise you'll have to get a new disk.

Yes the license does require removal of old installation. However since the old install is unusable that fulfills your obligation to make sure it isn't used.

Install on replacement & if the broken machine is fixed and able to still use MS Office, choose the one you want to continue with and either install another license on the 2d computer or uninstall Office on the one you won't be using.

Not connected with MS in any way or an expert on their licenses, but if you bought a store pack it is licensed for use on one computer at a time

Pre-installed versions may come with much more restrictive licenses that require you to toss the software when you upgrade or replace the machine. Read fine print carefully before you buy. Microsoft is becoming much more aggressive about preventing porting of software to replacement machines.

This happened to me recently. I had MS Office that allowed 3 installations. One of the installations was on a computer that the hard drive died. I spoke with a MS customer service and was told that I could install the software on another computer; which I did and I haven't had any problems.
