It's helpful to say what you don't want to forget aloud as you're doing it. ie' "I'm putting my car keys on the table". Of course you can't do that all day. Use sticky notes to help yourself and practice remembering lists of things. If you're a visual person it might help to form a picture in your mind of the things you want to remember or even a story linking them (if you have several things you want to remember). I don't believe age has to be a factor. Crossword puzzles and exersizing your brain can do a lot to keep your memory intact - just like with anything else. There are several books on the subject if you were to search amazon. Depression plays a major role in your ability to function cognitively so cut yourself some slack as well. I don't know what medication you're taking but there are going to be things that you can't worry about right now because taking care of your depression has to be the priority. Once you're feeling better I'm sure your memory will improve as well.

I wouldn't add to the medication you are already taking - one of the biggest mistakes that doctors make these days is over-proscribing. Try writing things down in a planner or notebook and keeping it with you or when you receive a new piece of information, associate it with an image that you are familiar with so you can say to yourself: I know what I need to remember has something to do with pickles... Oh, that's right; I need to pick up joey from soccer practice! It also really helps if they start with the same letter. You can also make up rhymes of thinks to help you remember. I have some trouble with memorization and so I always make up rhymes, acronyms, and images to help me remember vocabulary words, math equations, and polyatomic ions!

I've always had problems with forgetfulness. How I cope is to mark things in my brain that I want to remember. Like, I want to remember this, and you will.
