Well, I must say that I am blown away by the responses you have gotten as I couldn't agree with you more. I can't believe that no one mentioned health care. You don't know what a nightmare not being rich is until you have medical problems-having money is the difference between life and death, between getting the best care money can buy versus the dregs, the difference between living in long term physical suffering and being cared for. So, yes, there is no doubt that depression, frustration and sadness comes to everyone's door, but sadly, based on the society and culture we live in money makes a tremendous difference!!!!!!!!!!And as for the people who wrote things about the difficulties that people have when they have money-those are choices they make. Personally if I had money I would use it in ways that had nothing to do with a lavish lifestyle. And it would definitely take the stress off big time. Basic survival stress is not something the rich
face! I hate to say it, but the other people who answered your question have money-that's why they are blowing your theory off-they don't know what it is to not have it.

All three are things that affect our emotions. They're inherent in all people rich & poor. Having money only means you can be depressed, frustrated or sad in better surroundings. Money brings financial security & a whole lot more things to be worried about. Life is no longer simple. The Lawyers, the Accountants, stockbrokers & keeping up with the Jones'. Then the trophy wife! Holy crap!! If all of that isn't enough to make you depressed, frustrated & sad all at once, nothing will.......
Money won't buy you happiness. Even if it does, will it buy you contentment & piece of mind. All we have to do is look at our sports, movie or music heroes to see how money has affected them. Let's see. There's drug abuse, weapon offences, divorce & rehab. Lots & lots of rehab. No thanks, I'll just take my own little slice of life, find a nice quiet corner, be grateful for what I have, find some contentment in what I have achieved, & have the peace of mind that I haven't shamed or embarrassed myself, my family or my friends in the process..... Those are some of the things money can't buy!!!!

I have a pet theory about what being depressed is about.............I define depression as anger turned inward and not openly expressed. That being the case then the money angle is a non-starter, if it were then no 'wealthy' people would suffer from depression and yet many do. No-one can buy their way out of depression except that wealthy people at least have the wherewithall to pay for professional help and advice so can, potentially, get help more readily once they recognise that need.
No-one can buy a healthy mental attitude...........it has to come from within.

At least if you don't have money you can dream about how good your life would be if you had it and what you would do with it and it gives you something to work for and look forward to - so there's still hope for a better life. If you have loads of money and you're still depressed, therefore assuming the things your money can buy aren't cheering you up otherwise you wouldn't be depressed, then where do you go from there - what miracle can you be dreaming of which will transform your life?
Having said that I would still like to research the rich life to test out the possibilities of distracting myself from any depressions.

This is a good question.
I live in a community next to a very wealthy community. I have met a lot of wealthy people. Many are depressed. So money does not make them happier.
What makes you happier is exercise. Weightlifting, aerobics, stretching. All three can be done with very little materials, and not much money. The big factor is TIME. Most people do not exercise because they never have the time. Shame, exercise makes you feel better, especially if you are depressed.

Well you do need money to buy happiness. But only SO MUCH money. What I mean is, I'm not sure that someone who earns a million a year is necessarily any happier than someone who earns 100,000 a year.
I do believe that poor people can be happy, of course they can. But DESPERATELY poor people is another matter.
Anyway we're all doomed, we will all die anyway so what's the point?

Nope, I'm relativly well off, I'm the CEO of a small company, and I'm only 22, and I suffer from suicidal depression, the thing is to find a balence, enjoy what you've worked hard to earn, and not to let the depression, or the money, engulf your life.

you could pass see a dr! in case you're deeply depressed the bible won't grant help to. you could attempt meditation and download a audio e book called getting over melancholy or over coming melancholy. melancholy is a complicated one to kick! yet you may get help to do it. I even have been engaged on it for 10 years. Meds and meditation. Meds basically do lots. yet you could discover the middle to why you're depressed and get that long gone!

Money is a big source of worry and the rich people I have known have been less happy than the rest of us - a sweeping generalisation, but true in my experience. One was an alcoholic, another a workaholic and the rest were just plain mean.
Money will but you comfort in your misery
