The color of a child's stool con be dark due to food intake, but it can also be blood. High levels of iron can turn the stool dark. I would be safe and have your child's stool checked by a professional.

Before you freak, is it a dark green or black/brown? If real dark green it probably is caused by iron in the system. Any foods high in iron lately like spinach. If so should be OK, if not see a doctor, especially in the case of a child. Better safe than sorry, as they say.

It could be several things. Like something he has eaten, or if he is taken a certain medicine. If it continued I would at the very least call a nurse help line. Better safe then sorry.
