My parents never told me about Santa Claus and I'm fine. It's not going to traumatize him if he finds out the truth at this age.

I think that it's more traumatizing to lie to your child about Santa Claus because your child has so much trust in you.

Help him write a letter to Santa and place it on your home mail box or offer to take it to the post office for him while he is at school... When he is at school open the letter read and then reseal and send the letter... Then you will know what he wants but he hasn't told you just Santa....

You can also visit Santa after your child has sat on Santa's lap you say "Mom's turn" If your child stays close say "Hey I let you talk to Santa alone now let me" that way they will back up out of earshot and think it's funny.. When you sit down ask Santa what your child asked for, he will be happy to tell you... While there asking for your sanity back for Christmas is optional but I advise it ...

Most children figure out Santa about age 7-9, not telling you what he wants from Santa is a test, if Santa is real and not you Santa will bring the gift he wants even if you don't know what it is...

Most likely your son has an idea that Santa is really you he has either heard something from another child, you have made an inadvertant comment and your son has put it together with other stuff he has figured out or he has put 2 and 2 together and gotten 4...

When each of my children has figured out Santa I have allowed them to help me be Santa for the other kids from shopping to filling stocking they have gotten to enjoy the giving that is Santa... They also enjoy Christmas Eve pretending to go to bed but really staying awake until the others are asleep so they can sneak out with me and set it all up...

My youngest is now 9 and has known about Santa for since just after christmas 2 years ago... She read the credit card statement that said we bought a bicycle and guess what Santa gave her... She sorta knew before that and had asked questions like "Mom do you believe Santa is real?" To which I replied "What do you think?" When she read the statement she said "I knew it, you are tricky Mom and you are Santa... But don't tell Gennypher (age 19) maybe she still believes." LOL

I also have Santa write a thank you note for the milk and cookies and carrots for the reindeer... My neighbor wrote the note for all 7 years my youngest believed the last year she said "I am gonna know it's you because I saved all the notes you put in my lunch and I am gonna compare the handwriting like on T.V..." my little detective LOL

Boy...did I have the same problem. I told my girls that Santa calls and verifies their wish list and that they have been good the night before Christmas so they had to tell me what they told Santa. It worked for me. You could also have him write a letter to Santa and try that. Sounds like he might have heard something and is trying to find out for himself if all is true. Hold on as long as you can. If nothing works then the talk might be necessary. I told my girl's that there was a Santa and that his spirit is always alive and parents decided to keep it going all these years because he was so wonderful. Good Luck!

This happened to me! I feel for you. My daughter gave me the list Christmas Eve, she said if Santa knows if she was good, then he should know what she wanted!!

In retrospect what I wish I had done was to tell him/her that Santa has to put the elves to work, and no gifts are guaranteed, so a list is necessary. Besides, Santa only brings a few gifts, the rest are from Mommy and Daddy, and we talk to Santa and decided who gets what. If he doesn't give you an idea then he could end up with dollys, hehe.

He may still believe, or he may be testing you. Hard to tell these days.

Suggest that he write a leter to Santa, and that you will put a stamp on the sealed envelope and you will also drop it off at the post office.

He does not need to know that you will, later, open the envelope and read the list.

Yes, this is a lie, but so is letting him keep his innocent belief in Santa Claus.

An alternate method would be to provide him with a genuine address that he can put on the envelope and that he can drop into a postal mail box himself.

Just make sure the address in one at which the recipient will retrieve the letter and hand it to you, later.

Something similar can be done with email. Whomever receives the email list can forward it to your email address.

Tell him that he needs to make a wish list so you can get it to Santa in the North Pole before it is to late. I have an 9 yr. old and and 11 yr old and they both still believe in Santa.

wow! Well, if I were you, I would tell your son to write a letter to santa, that is what I used to do. You could even go as far as having him put it in an envelope and stamping it to go out in the mail. Either that or "santa" can write him a letter that will show up in the mailbox, and then he can write santa back.

tell him to write a letter and you can mail it for him. or make him write an email from a family account and that way you can check it after. even better make a fake santa email account like santa_clause_ho_ho_ho@hotmail.com and then you can check the email.
but chances are that an 8 year old boy is clever enough to know there's no santa and he could just be trying to prove it by making it impossible for anyone to find out what he wrote to santa. clever kid.
good luck.

Have him write a letter to Santa and then have him put it in the mailbox. When he's not looking, go out and get it and read it.

Maybe take him to see Santa at the mall at a time when it's not as busy. After he tells Santa what he wants, have mom take him to another store so you can tell Santa the story and have him tell you what your son said.

tell him to write a letter to santa. the post office has a way of helping out with this. ask your local post office.
or you can tell your son to put the letter on the tree and that santa will come for it. when he falls asleep take it and read it. hopefully your son will believe santa picked it up.

I would tell him to write a letter to Santa and after he does that, tell him you will take it to the post office like on your way to work or something and then open it up and read it. That's really the only thing I can think of...
