My dad just bought a brand new HDTV, and he doesn't want me to plug in my PS2 because he's afraid it will mess it up. Is there actually any way that the PS2 can screw up the television?
Also, we have an HDDVD player. If we plug the PS2 into that, can it in any way mess up the HDDVD player or the television?
Thanks?

The TV is a Sony, and it's a 46" HDTV, flat screen.
Also, I only need to use it for one evening, to play Guitar Hero on PS2.

Newer TVs don't have that problem anymore some older TVs and some plasmas might but its becoming rarer and rarer these days Which type TV did he get LCD or plasma from Sony
I bought the Sony XBR bRAVIA 1080P and is currently playing PS3 and xbox 360 on it as well as using it as a computer monitor. Also you should have enough inputs to plug the PS2 into the TV if not there is no way you can ruin the Hdvd player by plugging the PS2 into it.Even the new DLP TV'S are rated good for games it depends on tv , to be sure read instructions

The PS2 will have no problem interfacing with your TV, just plug in the proper input cables and set the input feed on the TV to the proper channel.
Running it through the HDDVD player is silly, the PS2 was developed before HDTV technology and no matter how hard you try, it will not run in HD. (but it will still work with an HDTV)

What messes up flat panels (potentially) isn't the game console itself, but the presence of static images that don't constantly change (like in a TV program).
For instance, think of the screen elements of a standard shooter - your ammo indicator, health meter, etc. Because they are constantly on your screen (and don't move or change all that much), the very real potential exists for the image to "burn" itself into the screen.
This is the same reason computer screens have periodic screen savers and the like - to prevent static parts of the image from burning themselves into the phosphorescent screen elements.
We've had that very problem with Halo on our 50" plasma, but luckily our plasma has a built-in utility to wipe the image of the screen. It was a life saver, and we're much more careful about that nowadays.
Best to you.

that happens in high projection tv's...meanin that if u plug in u're ps2 and u pause the game for a lengthy amount of time...the picture may be permanently input in the screen...thats what happens...
so..it cant damage ure dad's hdtv...just b sure not to pause it for long or leave it at a "stand still" image for a long time

Take your ps2 back where you got it. Its not functioning the way it should. Dont worry, it isnt your game, its more than likely something inside the system that is causing this. I love my final fantasy games too. Currently lvl 40 ish on my ffxii series :) Wish you the best of luck gamer!

nope only if you leave it switched on and the tv on at the same time for long periods of time. if u do this you can burn the image into the screen. This can happen with any tv but. So it wont do ANY damage to your tv unless you do what i just mentioned! Good Luck and i hope you can convince your old man...

I think the only way it can ruin it is if you pause it for a long period of time and the same image stays on it, then it will burn into the tv.
