Who says smart people don't pray? If someone wants to pray b/c it helps them get through a difficult time, who are you to tell them they are weak.....and what does it really matter? No prayer is not a sign of weakness, don't be scared, when your mother is dying in a hospital, look back on this question.

can you answer your own question, and why would it be considered a sign of weakness, how so? If you are talking with God, doesn't He appreciate conversation from His believers and followers and anyone? that train of thought is perhaps very foolish, sounds like the gory glory seekers, seekers of glory for themselves, anyway, no it is not a sign of weakness to pray

Aye, Matee, an' there's the rub.
We're not smart enough, so we pray, and it's a sign of wisdom.

It could be seen that way. If people who pray don't believe it I would give them Richard Dawkins book.
The God Delusion.
Here the first chapter is on-line free.

Yes, prayer is a sign of weakness.
Humility is the virtue which acknowledges that all we have and all we accomplish is God's work not ours.
The opposite of humility is the sin of pride. Pride in yourself is undue self-esteem or self-love, which seeks attention and honor and sets oneself in competition with God.
Pride in things like your heritage, your nation, and your children are just being thankful for gifts from God. These are not the sin of pride.
Prayer is the elevation of the mind and heart to God:
+ In praise of his glory
+ In petition for some desired good
+ In thanksgiving for a good received
+ In intercession for others before God
Through prayer the Christian experiences a communion with God through Christ in the Church.
"For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy." (St. Thérèse of Lisieux)
"Prayer is the raising of one's mind and heart to God or the requesting of good things from God." (St. John Damascene)
But when we pray, do we speak from the height of our pride and will, or "out of the depths" of a humble and contrite heart? (Psalm 130:1)
He who humbles himself will be exalted; humility is the foundation of prayer. Only when we humbly acknowledge that "we do not know how to pray as we ought," are we ready to receive freely the gift of prayer. "Man is a beggar before God."
With love in Christ.
