It's so dry that it is burning. I put lotion on and that makes it burn more. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Make sure the lotion you're using is fragrance-free. Keep an eye out for "mild" or "sensitive skin" formulas; those will be less likely to hurt.

You can also try baby oil on your body after a warm shower or bath. It'll help keep the water moisture from escaping your pores.

Dry skin is often due to deficiency of essential fatty acids in the diet. Take a good broad spectrum EFA supplement for a couple weeks and see if you notice any change. A good high potency multiple vitamin with minerals won't hurt your skin either.
Good luck!

My son has excema which is a really really dry skin condition. The burning can come from fragrances on open skin. You should see the doctor about it. I think the best advice I've gotten is to use shortening on the skin instead of lotion. You get 5x's as much for about $3 compared to the tubs of eucerin and it's a lot easier to spread. When he breaks out badly I wrap him in plastic wrap (loosely you don't want to cut off blood flow). Leave it on for about a couple hours. It helps keep the lotion from rubbing off and helps trap body heat in which makes it easier for the skin to absorb the "lotion". Now obviously the plastic should only be used on legs arms or the the trunk of the body. Just felt I should say that plastic wrap could be a choking hazard. I like to put my husbands socks to cover the wrap so my son doesn't tug it off. Good luck with any treatments you try.
