LindaLou has it very correct. The last armed conflict between Canada and the US was the War of 1812. Technically the war was with the British as Canada was still a British colony at the time and did not become a country on its own until 1867.

At the end of the War of 1812 the treaty reached included a clause that eliminated armed warships from permanent station on any of the Great Lakes by both the US and Canada. This tradition continues today and will continue unless the right wing whacko's in control of the US are allowed to expand their isolationist policies.

The US and Canada never went to war against each other. However, when Canada was ruled by the UK there were several conflicts between the US and UK (which involved Canada):
American Revolution- US forces invade Canada only to be turned back
War of 1812-US forces invade Canada only to be turned back
Pig War of 1859- Dispute over the San Juan Islands (WA). US forces land on the disputed San Juan Islands and declare them US territory. Talks between the US and UK end this episode peacefully. Both sides agreed that the Kaiser of Germany should decide who the Islands belong to. Later, the Kaiser rules in favor of the US.

The War of 1812. Actually it was Britain and the U.S. that went to war, before Canada was officially a country on its own. Both sides will say they won. It's all in the perspective.

The British took most of the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan. Then US army took back Michigan as well part of the lower peninsula of Ontario, but then retreated back to the U.S. The geographical area never actually changed.

Canadians love to take credit for burning down the White House in 1812. It makes them feel, competent, eh?

However, it was the British. So to answer your question, Canada and the US have never come to war, yet.

Last time I checked, we weren't at war.

The last time we were, Canada wasn't Canada yet, it was still England.

We are like brothers. We are allies but may talk about each other behind their backs. hehe
