How can we justify the extremely light sentences that paedophiles recieve . What kind of Justice system is it that lets a convicted child rapist out on to the streets to prey on defenceless kids . It seems that these Judges and MP's are all to leanient could this be the fact they have some thing in common?????

I would have to respectfully disagree with some of the people here. I feel that it is the judges fault. About a year ago a man was charged with and convicted of pedofilia. When he went before the judge for sentencing she acknowledeged his conviction and then set it aside and gave him probation with the condition of electronic monitoring. The honorable judge felt that because the man was only 5'2 or 3 he would become a victim in prison. Might ought to mention this judge is in Nebraksa, USA. GOOD! He would deserve it. I am sick to death of all of the judges taking the law into their own hands and not doing their jobs! The main thing I can find is that most of the *&^*%(^$s are appointed not elected and so have a job for life. They only care about their power and prestige not the people they are supposed to serve.

It may not be right, but judges can only apply sentences as low as the law allows. They don't make them, they just interpret them. Judges are by and large not pedophiles. There are many reasons that these criminals get "light" sentences. Sometimes the child doesn't testify or many things can't be conclusively proven. It's not right, but it's the way the system works. However, you have elected officials in the legislative branch of government who do make the laws. Contact them and lobby for tougher sentence minimums for these types of crimes. That's the proactive thing to do.

The PROBLEM here is that UNTIL it happens to your Legislators, your Judges, and the Law Enforcement Personnel -- it is NOT taken seriously, and the sentencing is just asinine.

It is the same with Prosecution and Sentencing for Domestic Violence -- a Woman can go to the court many, many times BEGGING for Protective Orders for her AND her Children -- but the Judge will continually "not see the threat" -- then ... when something happens to one of their personal friends, or the judge's family -- or the Legislator's Family -- well ... actions may be taken to introduce "special legislation" to solve the problem.

And yes, there are those out there sitting behind the bench that are JUST as much criminals as those that they are sentencing -- no profession is free of having problem personalities practicing. (and this includes legislators!).

The world has gone nuts. Too many people think that treatment is the answer, and therapy is a cure all. The fact is, no matter how much therapy a sick bastard gets, the crime was still committed. We as a nation need to hold judges accountable, and start demanding life in prison, or the death penalty for these animals. Children deserve better than what we give them.

I have noticed that judges now have become far too liberal. They give too many ppl the benefit of the doubt...sometimes that's okay, but in the case of child molesters and rapists that's not cool. Too many ppl can be hurt and I don't think its worth the risk of letting one of these guys go before he's able to get the proper treatment he/she needs.

If you are focusing on the judge you are looking at the wrong end of the horse to find out what is wrong with the system.
Don't go after the judges, go after the legislators who refuse to pass mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines.
