Self love is a virtue, but it just doesn't get as much "media" attention, so to speak. To love oneself is to embrace all of one's strengths, weaknesses, diversity and life itself, so it is a great virtue. The one you might be thinking of, with regards to not being virtuous, is narcissism, where someone loves oneself so much that they are engrossed by it. That's leaning towards sinning.

He is not violent he is a just God. Like a judge he must punish the evil doers. A good judge in reality would not let a criminal go free without punishment or that would make him a bad judge. The same goes with God, and about him being proud he has every right to be proud in my opinion after all he created us and we are but mear dust. He is so much bigger than us and even though we are bad and don't obey him many time he still loves us. Even to the point of watching his own son die.

It is one of the greatest virtues.....for if you can't love yourself, how can you love others? It's starts with the self and goes from there.
An additional note - others make a good point...do not go so far as to love the self for vanity's sake, but for the sake of learning how to love others the way you would want to be loved. Good luck.

Suicide isn't the greatest of sins.
Self Love isn't even in the list of virtues.
If youre religious, Jesus said that the 2 greatest commandments were 1) Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and 2) Love thy neighbor as thyself.

Who says that suicide is one of the greatest sins?
It is murder, which is a sin, just like any other sin. There are no "worse" sins. The only thing that makes us think they are worse is our society's reaction and consequences.

for those who commit suicide it's an escape from misery. perhaps it's selfish to want to escape pain so great that the contemplation of suicide occurs but it's just as selfish to expect someone to endure agony just to stay around for your benefit. suicide is a very sad thing and for some folks unimaginable but compassion and empathy is, IMO, more appropriate a reaction then condemnation.
in my "God" concept to Love anyOne is to Love an aspect of yourSelf.

Pride is the root of all sin. It is why Satan was cast down from Heaven like a bolt of lightening.

OK being suicidel isnt nessacerally self hate, it can just be loathing of the world your in.
But if it is self hate then you gotta realise tht the opposite of love isnt hate, the opposite of love is indifference(just not knowing they exist).
so no being vain is not a good thing, not even in athiest terms.
Look at narcissus

Self-love beyond the love of all becomes pride and false ego, and therefore is not of good, which is to say, it is bad.
