According to Heather Child's Christian Symbols, Ancient and Modern, the pentagram is a symbol of the five senses. Also, when the letters S, A, L, V, and S are inscribed in the points, the pentagram is a symbol of health (Latin salūs).
Medieval Christians believed it to symbolize the five wounds of Christ.

It is a symbol of the pagan faith and the V symbol intertwined signifies the goddess Venus. Satanists use an inverted version of that symbol, but since they are attempting to base their faith as being the antithesis of Christianity, the inverted cross would generally make more sense.
