I haven't been in a relationship since my daughter was born 18 mo. ago. Her father lives in CO and I live in IL. He was the last person I'd been with. Our relationship started out good but ended rough due to his verbal and physically abusive nature. I finally got fed up with him and moved away. I don't really have a strong desire to be intimate with anyone right now. But I do want to know what is the best way for me to open back up and give men a chance again. I have a real outgoing personality but it is hard for me to trust. So does anyone have any good suggestions on how to enjoy my life again aside from my beautiful child?

well obviously your son/daughter is top priority, but i'd say take small steps, dont just dive in head first especially when you dont know how deep the water is, just test the water a little, and slowly but steadily get yourself back in there, i know how the trust thing is, i trust nobody and it does kinda haunt me a little, but i've learned to make people earn trust and thats about all anyone can do

There is nothing wrong with being celibate. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't suggest u becoming a nun either. But, If you've been abused in a previous relationship , I would hope u could get some help from a Woman's Shelter or from a counseling service. Don't rush .....it takes time to be able to trust again. Just be calm and cool and see what happens., just be yourself .

A few brief counseling sessions, you might be able to find a self help book. Since he was abusive a battered womens group might be able to help too.

I have never been one to shy away from love just because I was hurt, I wish I knew why so I could share that with you but I just dont' know. I think I just like being in love so much that I am always ready to do it again.

My suggestion to you is to give yourself time to heal before going into another relationship, focus on your child.
I've been celibate for 27 years, but it's been by choice.

I've been celibate for 3 years, My Choice...just got tired of all the bull****.
So, I've placed it in God's Hands. Best of Luck...take your time and heal.
and remember this....Not all MEN are the same.
