My favorite red wine is Lambrusco Reunite. They serve it at Olive Garden if you want a taste before you buy a bottle. In Texas, they are anywhere from $5 - $9 a bottle, depending on the size.

Arbor Mist has some great wines. And they have a red one. This would be more for your husband, it's not too dry.
Or, ask the guy that owns the liquor store. I've gotten good advice on wines from them. Expecially a little store that carries more wine than liquor. A neighborhood one.

I have a friend who's always looking for good wines on the cheap. He found a boxed wine (gasp!) that even he approves of, Carmenet. I know they have Merlot, but maybe some other reds as well.

My fav red wine is called Menage a Trios, it is a blended wine with three types like Cabernet, Zinfindel, and Merlot. It is like 15 dollars a bottle, and tastes great too.

I like Shiraz..I was never a big wine drinker and my boyfriend likes Chianti...although not as dry as chianti, I think this would be a nice compromise for you and your husband.
Cheap brands like Yellowtail are available by the glass at a decent amount of restaurants if you want to try it first.

For a very good heavily mixed purple table wine, attempt the super domicile purple, which has each thing however the kitchen sink in it. you could often discover it at dealer Joe's for around $10. additionally, a very good Sangiovese from Foxen is a very good thank you to pass. they often have this at BevMo or TJs. maximum Sangioveses are good ingesting, and that they are lots greater fee-effective than the Cabs or Syrahs.
